U17 - FCL v Real Madrid (posted Sun 19th Jun 2011)
Dream fixture - Well done to the U17 team who travelled to Madrid for an international tournament this May. A high quality field from across Europe took part including academy sides from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bolton Wanderers. The dreams came true as FCL were drawn against Real Madrid who fielded the son of French International Zinedan Zidan. Although the lads lost 3-1 it was an excellent display against one of the top academy sides in Spain.

Honorary Life President (posted Thu 11th Nov 2010)
Local junior football club, Foots Cray Lions have recognised the outstanding contribution made to the club by their Secretary, Bernard Justham, by making him the first Honorary Life President of the club. Bernard has been involved with the club since it was founded and has worked tirelessly running the administration for over 30 years as well as helping to build it up from a one team club in 1977 into an FA Charter Standard club, which now has 21 teams with over 250 players. To mark the occasion a commemorative plaque was presented by to Bernard by the club Chairman, Clive Marks, at the recent Club open day at the Cray Youth Centre in Rectory Lane, Foots Cray.
ABOUT FCL
Foots Cray Lions played their first league game on 10th October 1977. The game was played at the old Foots Cray Outdoor Activity Centre football pitches, in the U/14 Division of the old Mercury Junior Football League against Bexley Colts, Foot’s Cray Lions running out 6-4 winners.

It had all started the previous year when the lads on the Foots Cray Estate
and the North Cray Estate started kicking a football around in the Foots
Cray Meadows. It wasn’t long before a dad, Alan Webster became interested in their efforts and started coaching them. Alan and a friend Bob Warner started organizing the boys as a proper team, and through Alan’s footballing connections friendly games were organized though the summer.

After much argument the name Foots Cray Lions was agreed. Foots Cray because that’s where home games would be played, and Lions as most of the boys supported Millwall. The newly formed club became affiliated to the LYFA with just one team in the U14’s division.

With up’s and downs over the next couple of years the ‘Lions’ struggled on eventually losing all of their junior football teams.

The opening of the Youth centre in Rectory Lane saw a new junior football team emerge under the banner of Foots Cray Lions, once again competing in the local leagues. From this point on new players were recruited and the junior teams grew and grew. Rectory Lane became the loved home of Foots Cray Lions JFC until a survey revealed the pitches were contaminated and the football stopped.

Today Foots Cray Lions fields over 20 junior teams from Under 6 to Under 18 catering for all abilities. Foots Cray Lions achieved FA recognition as an FA Charter Standard Development Club, an award the club is very proud of.

Our ground at Baugh Road, Rectory Lane is an important part of the club’s history and identity and the club is determined to return to play football on the pitches they call ‘home’ and develop the ground to cater for the boys and girls of Foots Cray Lions.
